Learn from sabotaging your ketogenic diet
Okay, so you’ve been doing keto for like ten days straight, but today you decided to eat a doughnut. Maybe in your mind, you had a reason to go off track from your ketogenic diet. Was it worth all those calories and not to mention carbs? So the short answer is yes! The long answer is also yes if that is the only bad thing that you do all day and even all week! If you stay on track for the rest of the day, and the week after the divulgence, then you are good! However, if after eating that doughnut, you continue to binge on bad carbs for the rest of the day, and for days to come, then that equals big-time sabotage!
For instance, today, as I was driving home from work, I decided to eat two gluten-free biscotti( I mean, at least they were gluten-free and organic ). I thought to myself, “wow” I just sabotaged my whole plan to eat low carbs for the next few days! Then I thought it through more and decided its okay! I learned to forgive myself. It just means I got to do good after the divulgence! I think we get caught up and feel that we have to be strict all the time. I mean, yes, we do need to watch our carbohydrate intake and stick to a ketogenic lifestyle most of the time ( especially for the initial first 30 days). However, I feel like, in our mind, we have only so little will power reserves!
The first 30 days of keto
In the first 30 days of a keto diet, it is pertinent for you to stick to a net carbohydrate limit of about 50 net carbohydrates and not go off track. I talk about this more here. After you have done your initial 30 days of keto or three weeks, it would be advantageous for you to cycle in more carbohydrates a few days a week. If you want to go longer in fat-burning mode, then do it! However, keep in mind that you still need nutrients from some higher carbohydrate types of foods such as mangos or sweet potatoes.
After the initial 30 days of keto, pick two to three days a week to cycle in more carbs.
When you are ready to add more carbs in your keto diet, I suggest that you pick two days a week to increase your net carbohydrate count to between 100-150. So, your keto meal plan will include four to five days of strict keto (under 50 net carbs) and two to three days of higher carbs ( which would be 100-150). When you have your higher carb days, always keep in mind that you want to stick to colorful foods. When you consume foods in the rainbow, you will reap the benefits and reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, lower blood pressure, and the chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
Stay on the keto bandwagon.
Even though you can cycle in more carbs after doing 30 days of keto, it is still not permissible to go off the railroad tracks and eat whatever you want. I do understand that there are times it takes something that is not so keto-friendly (biscotti I’m eyeing you) to do the trick. However, I do advise you to avoid doing this because it will be challenging to get back on track. However, if you do slip a little, then get yourself right back on the bandwagon. Everything will be good, I promise.
Learn to forgive yourself and move on!
If you do go off track from your keto diet, it is essential to incorporate forgiveness. Remember that great song “Try Again” from Aaliyah? I know I’m taking you down memory lane (especially if you were a child in the 90s like me ). Some of you recall some of the lyrics going like this, “And if at first, you don’t succeed, then dust yourself off and try again!” This is such a powerful message to give to people! Perfect for a holistic keto goddess like you!
Learning to forgive yourself is probably the most important thing you can do when following any diet. It would help if you recognized that there would be times that you aren’t perfect. You’re not programmed (unless you are a robot) to always resist that delicious piece of cake full of carbs. It is all about moderation! In general, you should resist it, but if you don’t, that’s okay. You can make up for it tomorrow by restricting your carbs.
Solar plexus chakra and will power
If you are going off track from your keto diet, I suggest balancing your solar plexus chakra! This chakra is a small energy center that focuses on your will power. If this is out of alignment, you will not want to be very compliant with a keto diet or any regimen! If you want to learn more about balancing, the solar plexus chakra, I suggest you listen to my podcast, which is called, “How balancing your solar plexus chakra can help with weight loss. “
